MURNI: Multidisciplinary Review of Nusantara Innovation recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies are increasingly used in academic research and scholarly communication. MURNI supports their responsible and transparent use while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, research integrity, originality, confidentiality, authorship, and human accountability.
AI tools may be used for legitimate purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, readability, formatting, coding, data processing, or other scholarly activities, provided that their use does not compromise the accuracy, originality, confidentiality, or integrity of the research.
Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to and published by MURNI. All AI-assisted content must be carefully reviewed and independently verified by the authors, particularly because AI systems may generate inaccurate, biased, fabricated, or unverifiable information.
AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, results, participants, observations, references, quotations, citations, images, or other scholarly materials. Any use of AI that constitutes or facilitates academic or research misconduct may result in editorial action in accordance with MURNI's Publication Ethics Policy.
When AI or AI-assisted technologies constitute a substantive part of the research methodology, such as machine learning, computational modeling, statistical analysis, coding, classification, or qualitative data analysis, their use must be transparently described in the Methods or other appropriate section of the manuscript.
Where relevant, authors should identify the AI tool or model used, its purpose, the data or materials processed, and the procedures used to ensure the reliability and validity of the results. Authors remain responsible for the methodological appropriateness, accuracy, interpretation, and reproducibility of AI-assisted research.
AI systems, generative AI tools, and large language models cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires intellectual contribution, responsibility for the work, approval of the final manuscript, and accountability for the published content. These responsibilities cannot be fulfilled by AI systems.
Authors must disclose substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of a manuscript. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly explain its purpose.
An appropriate statement is:
Declaration of AI Use: During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool] for [briefly describe the purpose]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed and verified the AI-assisted content and take full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.
If no AI was used, authors may state:
Declaration of AI Use: The author(s) declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript.
Where AI is part of the research methodology, its use must also be described in the relevant methodological section.
Confidential manuscripts, unpublished research data, personal information, proprietary materials, and peer-review documents must not be uploaded to external AI systems when doing so could compromise confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, or research integrity.
Reviewers must not use generative AI to process confidential manuscripts or peer-review materials unless explicitly permitted by MURNI and consistent with applicable confidentiality requirements.
Authors are responsible for verifying every citation and reference in their manuscripts. AI-generated references must not be used without independent verification. All cited sources must exist, be accurately represented, and genuinely support the claims for which they are cited. Fabricated or unverifiable references constitute a breach of scholarly integrity.
MURNI may use similarity-detection and AI-content screening tools as part of its editorial quality-control procedures.
As a general guideline, manuscripts are expected to maintain a similarity index below 20%, subject to substantive editorial assessment. Legitimate similarities arising from quotations, references, commonly used terminology, or standard methodological descriptions will be evaluated in context.
Similarity and AI-detection scores are not, by themselves, definitive evidence of plagiarism or inappropriate AI use. Editorial decisions will be based on substantive assessment, available evidence, and the principles of academic and research integrity.
MURNI may request additional information concerning the use of AI when necessary to assess the originality, accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, or ethical integrity of a manuscript.
The journal's primary consideration is not whether AI has been used, but whether its use is transparent, responsible, verifiable, ethical, and consistent with academic and research integrity.
MURNI will periodically review this policy to ensure that it remains consistent with developments in artificial intelligence, scholarly communication, research ethics, and internationally recognized publication-ethics standards.
